Fishing

Heilhornet Seaside Lodge is set in a beautiful location on the edge of Leka and the Bindalsfjord. Sheltered on the landward side by high mountains and close to the salt water, it gives anglers access to a varied fishing area. The combination of fjord, coastal waters, islands, channels and nearby open sea makes this an appealing destination for anglers who like to combine different techniques and conditions in a single trip.

Fishing around Leka and the Bindalsfjord is highly varied, with cod, pollack, coalfish, redfish, halibut, wolffish, haddock and ling among the key species. You are therefore not tied to a single style of fishing. Pollack and coalfish can be targeted over shallower plateaus and along rocky shores, while deeper water offers chances for cod, ling and redfish. Halibut fishing can be especially interesting over sandy and mixed transition areas where current, bottom structure and baitfish come together.

Cod is a mainstay in this part of Norway. For many sea anglers it forms the backbone of the fishing week: dependable, hard-fighting and commonly found around drop-offs and bottom structure, where it can be targeted with shads, pilkers or natural bait. In colder and deeper water, cod can reach impressive sizes, while smaller fish often feed more actively in sheltered parts of the fjord.

Pollack and coalfish provide the more active side of the fishing. Pollack are often caught around rock faces, kelp beds and rising contours. On light to medium spinning tackle they deliver explosive takes and powerful runs. Coalfish may hunt in schools or around baitfish over deeper water. For groups that enjoy searching actively, casting and vertical fishing, these are ideal target species.

Halibut is the species that draws many anglers to Northern and Central Norway. At Heilhornet, the best opportunities are generally found where changes in depth, current and flatter bottom areas meet. Targeted fishing with large shads, dead baitfish or slowly worked presentations can be very effective. Because the area also offers sheltered options, it is usually possible to choose suitable grounds according to wind and conditions.

Redfish, ling and wolffish add extra depth and variety to the fishing. These species generally call for a more targeted approach focused on the bottom, depth and structure. Ling is particularly attractive for anglers who enjoy natural-bait fishing in deeper water. Redfish requires precise depth control and careful spot selection. Wolffish is a distinctive bycatch or target species around hard bottom and rough structure.

In addition to sea fishing, nearby lakes offer opportunities for trout and Arctic char. This makes Heilhornet attractive to groups that want to combine their sea-fishing trip with light freshwater fishing or a quieter day inland. When offshore winds are less favourable, this can be a very enjoyable alternative.

The destination is well suited to anglers who want to combine comfort, peace and quiet with serious fishing. A fish-processing area close to the boats, a large freezer room and a drying room make the practical side of the trip particularly convenient. The host also speaks German and English, which is useful for international groups when discussing the boats, fishing grounds and local conditions.
