Fishing

Igeroy Brygge is located on the island of Vega off the Helgeland coast, an area known for its islands, skerries, shallows, channels and varied coastal waters. For anglers, this is a particularly practical destination: the seaside houses are right on the water, the boats are moored beside the accommodation and the fishing starts virtually on the doorstep. Igeroy Brygge is ideal for sea fishing, hiking, birdwatching, exploring the World Heritage landscape and enjoying a relaxed stay on Vega.

The fishing around Vega is highly varied. The combination of sheltered waters, island structure and more open stretches towards the coast allows you to adapt your tactics to the wind direction and season. Close to the harbour there are easy options for a relaxed start, while experienced anglers can venture farther out to search drop-offs, current seams and hard bottom where cod, coalfish, ling and other species feed. This location makes Igeroy Brygge especially attractive to anglers who are not simply looking to run as far offshore as possible, but want a safe, practical and varied fishing week.

Sea fishing around Vega

Vega and the surrounding islands form a classic northern Norwegian coastal fishery. Sheltered areas between the islands often remain fishable even when the wind is less favourable. This makes the destination particularly useful for groups that want to maximise their time on the water. The local waters hold many of Northern Norway’s popular sportfish species, including cod over ridges and hard ground, coalfish schooling around current seams, ling in deeper areas and halibut over sandy ground and transition zones.

For cod, the area is especially interesting because of the many changes in depth and bottom type. Fishing jigs, shads or natural bait along drop-offs and plateaus can produce excellent sport. Coalfish can be extremely exciting when schools of baitfish move into the area; lighter tackle then comes into its own, and drifting along current seams can provide fast action. Ling require a more targeted approach over deeper channels and hard bottom, while halibut usually call for patience, slowly worked shads or baitfish and careful coverage of sandy flats, edges and channels.

Sheltered fishing options

A major advantage of Igeroy Brygge is that the boats are moored directly beside the seaside houses and the surrounding area contains numerous islands and sheltered stretches of water. For groups that do not want to depend on open-sea conditions every day, this is a real benefit. You can plan the day flexibly: head out early, fish a short session, return to the accommodation for lunch and go back out again later in the evening. In summer, the long days and light nights provide even more freedom.

The sheltered waters are also ideal for mixed-ability groups. Dedicated anglers can target larger fish, while less experienced anglers or families can choose shorter trips in calmer water. With the accommodation right on the shoreline, everything remains easy and straightforward.

Freshwater, nature and activities

There are also hiking and cycling routes, and Vega is an excellent birdwatching destination. Igeroy Brygge therefore offers much more than fishing alone. Vega is famous for its distinctive nature and island culture. For groups in which not everyone wants to fish all day, hiking, cycling, birdwatching and experiencing the World Heritage landscape add real value to the trip.

Main target species

  • Cod: the classic target species in these coastal waters, often found around bottom structure, edges and changes in depth.
  • Coalfish: exciting sport when schools are hunting in the water column; ideal for jigs, speed jigs and shads.
  • Halibut: the dream fish for many anglers visiting Norway; target sandy flats, transition zones and current-swept channels.
  • Ling and other bottom species: best targeted in deeper water and over hard ground, particularly with natural bait or heavier rigs.
  • Pollack and other coastal species: attractive targets around rocky edges, kelp beds and shallower structure.

Why choose Igeroy Brygge?
  • Modern seaside houses right on the water on Vega.
  • Boats moored beside the accommodation, making the daily fishing logistics extremely easy.
  • Ideal for anglers who want to combine sea fishing with nature, hiking and birdwatching.
  • Located in the Vega Archipelago and World Heritage landscape.
  • A strong choice for groups that want sheltered fishing options while still experiencing the open character of Helgeland.
