Fishing

Litlehaug is located on the sheltered inner side of the island of Hugla, in the heart of Helgeland. The setting combines rural peace and quiet with direct access to saltwater fishing in a Norwegian coastal area known for its variety, open space and manageable cruising distances. The sea is around 150 metres from the accommodation and the boat about 300 metres away, so anglers can quickly reach the jetty and the fishing grounds.

This destination is ideal for anglers who are not looking for a large, busy fishing camp, but for a quiet base where the trip is all about nature, freedom and having your own practical setup. Hugla is only around a ten-minute ferry ride from Nesna, giving the location a remote and authentic feel while keeping the facilities in Nesna within easy reach.

Character of the fishing area

The fishing around Hugla and the Helgeland coast is varied. You fish coastal waters with islands, channels, drop-offs, current seams and deeper areas where baitfish, cod species and larger predators gather. This mix makes Litlehaug particularly attractive for groups wanting to target several species. On calmer days you can venture farther in search of deeper water and distinctive bottom structure, while changeable weather still leaves sheltered options closer to the islands and shoreline.

The destination suits anglers who like to fish independently but still want a practical, well-organised base with a private boat, floating jetty, filleting facilities and an ATV for transporting tackle and fish between the house and the boat. This makes the logistics of a fishing week especially convenient: gear, catch and fuel do not have to be carried over long distances.

Main target species

Litlehaug offers good opportunities for cod, coalfish, haddock, halibut, pollack, ling, tusk, redfish and mackerel. This makes it a versatile destination for anglers who enjoy both active searching and more targeted fishing for larger specimens.

Cod is the main target species for many guests. Good fish can be found around drop-offs, transitions between harder bottom and deeper water, and wherever baitfish concentrate. In this part of Norway, cod can be encountered both close to shore and in deeper water, depending on the season, current and presence of baitfish.

Coalfish and pollack provide exciting sport on lures. They are often active around current, kelp beds, steep edges and areas where small baitfish are being driven together. For anglers who enjoy light to medium tackle, these species can deliver plenty of action.

Halibut adds an extra level of excitement to the fishing. The best chances are generally found over sand and gravel flats, channels, drop-offs and transition zones where these flatfish hunt. Litlehaug is not a high-volume halibut camp, but the combination of tranquillity, suitable coastal structure and local searching makes it an appealing place for anglers who want to target them deliberately.

Ling and redfish add interest for those who like fishing deeper water. Natural bait or heavier jigs can be used along deeper edges and holes in search of hard-fighting bottom fish. Haddock and mackerel add further variety and are ideal when fishing with lighter methods.

Freshwater and surroundings

In addition to sea fishing, Lake Røssvatnet can be reached farther inland. Litlehaug is therefore primarily a saltwater destination, but the wider Helgeland region also suits travellers who want to combine nature, fjords, islands and freshwater during a longer stay. For families or mixed groups, this is a real advantage: not every day has to revolve entirely around the boat.
