Mauritius

Relaxed with great fishing

BIG FISH, RELAXED AND GOOD PRICE!

Mauritius, an island of over 2000 km2 lies in the Indian Ocean 850 kilometres east of the island of Madagascar. Among tourists, Mauritius is known for its beautiful white beaches and palm trees, but among us fishermen, Mauritius is known for its variety of fish species and the size of the fish caught here.

Several records have been set in Mauritius and the impressive variety of species confirms its position as a main destination for fishing. Fishing with our local partner takes place from Grand Baie, in the north of the island. The north of the island is the best place as there are many underwater structures as to where the south there is mainly flat bottom and beaches. That is why the north is a paradise for sea anglers to top spots such as Gunner's Quoin, Flat, Serpent, Gabriel and Round Island, Pigeon House Rock, Nab reef and Sandringham reef. Illustrious names with equally illustrious fish species in the corresponding sizes. Here you can indulge yourself with all kinds of fishing imaginable in a week's time. And it is precisely this variety that makes fishing here so unique.

Read here the article in 'De Roofvis' by Tom Sintobin about our experiences and fishing during the pilot trip.

The Mauritian waters are full of beautiful species such as amberjack, giant and bluefin trevally, groupers, groupers, sea bream, groupers, snappers, gilthead bream, sea bream and several shark species. You also have a chance to catch blue and black marlin and tiger shark. This big game fishery requires a lot of effort and therefore also physical strength, stamina and patience.

Our local partner likes to catch fish but even more so of putting the fish back. Catch & release is his philosophy for the fishery here. The owner has more than 20 years of fishing experience on this type of fish and has been doing so for the past 10 years as a full time fisherman. He is a pure enthusiast and therefore chooses to keep the company small and also to limit the fishery to 1 boat. High quality in a private setting results in an unforgettable fishing trip. No hustle and bustle of other boats, big hotels, busy bars but personal attention, support and respect for nature, the fish and the environment. It doesn't get any beter!

You can fish here in all kinds of ways.
  1. Popping
  2. Jigging
  3. Verticals
  4. Live bait

All of these techniques are used here and depend on the desired species.

You can fish almost all year round in Mauritius. But the best period is from October to May. Since this is the top period, it is advisable to make reservations way before your arrival date. In addition, there is statistically more chance of wind in January and February. This does not affect the quality of the fishing, but can possibly result in a missed fishing day. If that happens the cost for such a day will off course be refunded. Of course it is also conceivable to visit this location for a longer period of time and to go fishing and relax on other days or to do other activities. Think of diving, snorkelling, para sailing, water skiing, supping, kayaking etc.
