Fishing

Myken Brygge is located on the small island of Myken, far offshore west of Mo i Rana. Its location makes this destination particularly attractive to anglers who want to fish close to the open sea while staying in a compact island community full of character. The sea is practically on your doorstep: the apartments and harbour are right on the waterfront, and the surrounding fishing grounds are only a short boat ride away.

Myken combines easy access to deep-water fishing grounds, short logistics and an authentic Norwegian island atmosphere. The island is known for its creative community, its own whisky distillery and fantastic sea fishing. It is exactly the kind of destination for anglers looking for more than just accommodation and a boat: remote, unspoilt, maritime and centred entirely around life by the sea.

The waters around Myken are deep and feature varied underwater structure. This gives anglers plenty of tactical options: active lure fishing for coalfish and cod, drifting along drop-offs and slopes for halibut, or targeting deeper marks for species typical of Helgeland’s open coastal waters. The short run to the fishing grounds is a major advantage, reducing travel time and maximising effective fishing time.

Sea fishing around Myken

Fishing around Myken is particularly appealing to anglers looking for open-sea fishing with a comfortable base ashore. This makes Myken ideal for experienced anglers who enjoy fishing bigger water, as well as groups that want to progress from more sheltered marks to open water when conditions allow.

The 22 ft boats provide ample range for exploring different marks around the island. These include current-swept areas, edges where baitfish concentrate and deeper water where cod, coalfish and halibut hunt. With the accommodation right by the harbour, you can respond flexibly to wind, current and tide. Short evening sessions or an early-morning drift are therefore easy to fit into the day.

Key target species

Cod is one of the staple target species in this region. Around island structure and deeper water, it can be targeted effectively with pirks, soft plastics and natural bait. The combination of depth, current and open coastal water offers good opportunities for powerful fish hunting close to baitfish concentrations.

Coalfish is a superb sport fish for anglers who enjoy active, technical fishing. Along the Helgeland coast, coalfish can feed spectacularly when baitfish are present. Successful coalfish fishing often means keeping up the pace, searching different depths and watching for birds, surface activity and fishfinder signals.

Halibut is the dream fish for many anglers visiting Northern Norway. Around Myken, the proximity of deeper water, channels and flatter feeding areas creates attractive conditions. Target them with large soft plastics, baitfish rigs or controlled drifts along transitions, always taking changing current into account.

Haddock, ling, tusk and redfish are also part of the wider range of species found in the region. Which species dominate depends on the season, mark, depth and technique. That variety is exactly what makes Myken attractive to anglers who want more than one style of fishing.
