Fishing

Foldvik Bryggeferie is located in Troms, directly on the waters of the Gratangen. The destination combines the atmosphere of a small-scale Northern Norwegian coastal village with an exceptionally practical location for anglers: the sea is literally on your doorstep, the boats are moored at the jetty and the surrounding fjord arms offer plenty of variety for anglers looking for both sheltered and more active fishing.

The Gratangen is an interesting fishing area because you are not entirely dependent on long runs to the open sea. The fjord system offers shelter, current seams, deeper channels and shallower edges where baitfish can gather. This makes Foldvik suitable for anglers targeting cod, coalfish, haddock, flatfish and halibut, as well as groups looking for a varied fishing week with productive options close to the accommodation.

Fishing here is largely about reading the water, drop-offs and current. Around the fjords and straits of Northern Norway, distinct feeding routes often develop. On days with a favourable drift, you can work edges and transitions with shads, pirks or natural bait. During the early and late season, the best opportunities are often close to deeper structure, while in summer shallower plateaus and edges can also be productive, especially when baitfish move in.

Cod and coalfish
Cod is a key target species for many anglers in this region. It can be targeted effectively with pirks, shads and baitfish presentations along edges, channels and areas of bottom structure. The combination of sheltered fjord fishing and access to more open water makes Foldvik attractive to anglers who want not only numbers, but also a chance of stronger, heavier fish. Coalfish provide spectacular sport as well. When they are hunting in the water column, lighter tackle can deliver exceptionally active fishing.

Halibut, flatfish and bottom species
For halibut, patience, spot selection and drift control are essential. The waters around Foldvik offer logical areas to search for them: sandy transitions, edges bordering deeper water and areas where baitfish pass through. Flatfish, haddock and other bottom-dwelling species also suit these waters well. Alternating between lures and natural bait increases the chances of a varied catch.

Sheltered fishing and flexible planning

One of Foldvik’s main advantages is that the fishing does not rely solely on long offshore runs. The destination is a recreational and fishing centre where the Gratangen provides productive grounds and several activities are available at or around the resort. This makes it easy to adapt your fishing throughout the week to wind direction, tides and weather conditions.

Activities beyond fishing

Foldvik also works well for groups in which not everyone wants to spend every day at sea. Bicycles and snowshoes can be rented locally and additional activities are available at the resort. This makes it a good fit for families, mixed groups and anglers who want to combine fishing with nature, relaxation and outdoor activities. Its location in Troms also delivers a distinctly Northern Norwegian atmosphere: mountains, fjord scenery, clear water and long summer days.

Highlights

  • Waterfront location, with the boats moored at the jetty beside the accommodation.
  • Fishing in the Gratangen with opportunities for the most popular Northern Norwegian saltwater species.

  • Suitable for families, groups of friends and anglers looking for sheltered and varied fishing.
  • Practical facilities including fishing boats with electronics, bicycle rental and snowshoes.

Why choose Foldvik Bryggeferie?

Foldvik Bryggeferie is an excellent choice for anyone wanting a straightforward, comfortable and productive fishing trip. Everything is compactly organised: the rorbuer are right by the sea, the jetty is beside the accommodation and the boats are equipped for serious fishing. At the same time, the destination remains very accessible. The supermarket, fuel station and basic amenities are extremely close, so little holiday time is lost on logistics.

Experienced anglers will find plenty of challenge thanks to the combination of fjord water, current and varying depths. Less experienced anglers benefit from several sheltered options and a choice of boats suitable for different group sizes. The result is a destination that never feels overly demanding or complicated, yet is unmistakably Northern Norwegian in its fishing, scenery and overall experience.
