Havnnes Handelssted enjoys a unique location in Northern Norway, right in the Lyngenfjord, with views across the sea, fjord and the dramatic Lyngen Alps. For sea anglers, this is an excellent combination. Rather than fishing from a busy harbour, you stay at a historic trading post where the boats, shop, filleting facilities and fishing grounds all fit naturally together. It is a great choice for anglers who want to combine comfort and easy access with the rugged character of Troms.

The fishing area covers the Lyngenfjord and nearby Rotsundet. Depending on wind, current and season, you can choose between more sheltered fjord marks and water with stronger current and more structure. This variety is exactly what makes Havnnes so appealing to anglers: one day you can target big cod or coalfish along deeper water, while on another day the focus may shift to halibut over sandy ground and transition zones.

Havnnes is an excellent area for halibut, big cod and coalfish. These are exactly the species that make this region so attractive to serious sea anglers. Halibut fishing calls for a calm, focused approach using large shads, baitfish or natural baits over promising areas. The mix of fjord bottom, channels and transition zones allows several techniques to be used effectively. This is ideal for mixed-experience groups: active anglers can work controlled drifts, while others can use the onboard electronics to carefully sound out productive marks.

Cod is one of the key target species in this area. Especially in colder water, around baitfish concentrations and along current lines, good-sized cod can be present. In practice, flexibility pays off: pirks, large shads, smaller jigs and natural bait can all produce fish. The safe boats, equipped with GPS, chartplotter and fishfinder, make it easier to track depths, drop-offs and baitfish while searching for productive ground.

Coalfish provide fast action and hard-fighting sport. They often hunt in the water column and can appear in large schools. For anglers this is ideal: light to medium tackle, fast-moving shads or pirks and active searching over deeper water can deliver spectacular sessions. Coalfish also add welcome variety to a week that may otherwise focus heavily on halibut or cod.

Havnnes offers much more than boat fishing alone. Freshwater fishing, hiking, cycling, dog-sledding, riverboat trips through Reisadalen, snowmobile tours and whale safaris are all mentioned as local activities. This makes the destination a strong option for mixed groups as well. Not everyone needs to spend every day at sea to enjoy a complete Northern Norway experience.

The atmosphere is very different from a standard fishing camp: you stay among historic buildings overlooking the fjord, mountains and surrounding landscape. The houses and apartments are all close to the boats, filleting room and shop, keeping the daily logistics simple for anglers.
Accommodation ranges from compact, charming houses to spacious homes for larger groups. This makes Havnnes suitable for small fishing teams, families and bigger groups of friends who may want to combine several houses. Almost all units include practical facilities such as Chromecast, Wi-Fi, private or shared outdoor space, barbecue facilities and views of the fjord, mountains or sea.

Banken

Banken is a spacious house of approximately 105 m² with two bedrooms and room for six guests. It has a large living room with seating area and dining table, a modern kitchen with dishwasher and microwave, a bathroom with shower and an additional toilet. The six single beds are divided between two bedrooms. Thanks to the generous living space and short distance to the boats and filleting room, Banken is particularly well suited to fishing groups that value comfort and a practical layout.

Borgerstua

Borgerstua is a smaller, characterful house of approximately 60 m² with two bedrooms and four beds. The building originally dates from around 1800 and has been renovated. It is a good fit for smaller groups or anglers who want to experience the historic atmosphere of Havnnes. The house has a bathroom with shower and toilet, a wood-burning stove, electric heating, Chromecast and access to shared drying facilities.

Messa first floor and ground floor

The Messa first-floor and ground-floor apartments are located within part of the old trading post and have been fully renovated with modern bathrooms, kitchens and a clean, contemporary finish. Both apartments are approximately 60 m², have three bedrooms and sleep up to five guests. Their compact layout, views of the Lyngen mountains and Rotsund, private barbecue facilities and short distance to the shop, boats and filleting room make Messa particularly practical for small to medium-sized fishing teams.

Per Arne house

Per Arne House is a modern, renovated house of approximately 90 m² with four bedrooms and six beds. It has a spacious living room with dining table, sofa and Chromecast, plus a kitchen, shower and toilet. In the basement there are additional shower and toilet facilities, a laundry room and a drying room. The large terrace overlooking the Lyngen Alps makes this house attractive to groups looking for both a practical fishing base and plenty of comfort and space.

Wågen

At approximately 180 m², Wågen is the largest accommodation in this selection. The house has three bedrooms, six beds, a new well-equipped kitchen, modern bathrooms with rain showers, a washing machine, drying room, large living room, veranda and garden. Its short distance to the shop and boats makes Wågen ideal for groups who want plenty of living space and a comfortable place to relax after a day on the water.

Boat & Tackle

The boats at Havnnes Handelssted are clearly set up for sport fishing in Northern Norway. The fleet consists of 19 ft Kværnø aluminium boats with 60 or 70 hp engines. These boats are known for their stability, high gunwales, practical deck space and a layout that works well for three to four anglers. For the Lyngenfjord and Rotsundet they are an excellent match: nimble enough for fjord fishing, yet sturdy enough for more serious sea fishing when conditions and experience allow.

The boats are equipped with important safety and navigation features for a fishing trip, including GPS, chartplotter, fishfinder, rod holders, steering console and Safetracker. This gives anglers better control over navigation, depth information and fish-finding while also improving safety on the water. In a fjord environment where conditions can change quickly, good electronics are not a luxury but an essential part of responsible boating.

Kværnø 19 ft with 60/70 hp

The 19 ft Kværnø boats combine a manageable size with plenty of practical fishing space. Their aluminium hulls are robust, there is sufficient seating and each boat is suitable for up to four people. This allows anglers to fish comfortably with several rods without the deck becoming cluttered. The fishfinder and chartplotter help locate depth contours, drop-offs, baitfish and promising bottom transitions.

The fleet consists of several boats with similar equipment, which is useful for groups combining multiple accommodation units. The destination also requires accommodation and boat bookings to cover the same dates between 1 May and 1 September. This is important to take into account when planning the trip.

Tackle and fish processing

Havnnes has all the key shore-side facilities anglers need. There are filleting facilities, a large freezer and a vacuum-packing machine, as well as a general store selling fishing tackle. This means the destination is set up not only for catching fish, but also for properly processing and storing the catch. Fuel is purchased on site, which keeps the daily logistics simple.
The combination of safe boats, tracking, fish-processing facilities and the on-site shop makes Havnnes a complete destination for sea anglers who want to fish independently while still having solid infrastructure close at hand.

Between 01.05 and 01.09, accommodation and boat must be booked for the same dates.
Fuel is purchased on site.
A card terminal is available for Visa, MasterCard and AmEx, but the accommodation and boat deposit must be paid in cash.
Boat insurance is available with an excess.
Bringing your own boat may be possible on request when renting a house at Havnnes, subject to weight limits and local conditions.
