Varied Sea & Coastal Fishing in Northeast Brazil
Many Different Styles of Fishing in One Trip
At this destination, your fishing trip is not focused on just one species or one technique. Its biggest strength is the huge variety of fishing styles and species available. Each fishing day is discussed with the guests beforehand and, wherever possible, tailored to their personal preferences.
The captain will advise you based on the weather, sea conditions, fish activity and his extensive local experience. Within the possibilities of the day, you then decide together which species and fishing techniques you would like to focus on.
Depending on the conditions, you can choose from:
- Trolling
- Live-bait fishing
- Jigging
- Casting poppers and stickbaits
- Fishing with softbaits and other artificial lures
- Bottom fishing
- A combination of different techniques
Even the departure time can be adapted to the fishing plan. When conditions and the chosen type of fishing call for it, the day may start as early as 4:30 AM, allowing you to make the most of the often excellent conditions around first light.
An Adventurous Start from the Beach
The fishing day starts with an adventure in itself. You travel by 4x4 along the beach to the launching point, where you board the fishing boat directly.
It is a unique way to start the day and perfectly matches the authentic and adventurous character of this destination.
Trolling
Trolling is used to target a wide range of fast-moving predators and pelagic species, including:
- Barracuda
- Giant trevally / jack crevalle
- Spanish mackerel
- King mackerel
- Sailfish
- Bonito
- Yellowfin tuna
- Skipjack tuna
- Various smaller tuna and other pelagic species
By running different lures at various distances and depths behind the boat, a large area of water can be covered in search of actively feeding fish. Trolling is not only highly effective, but can also produce spectacular strikes and seriously powerful runs from these fast pelagic predators.
Live-Bait Fishing
Fishing with live bait opens up opportunities for an impressive variety of hard-fighting predators. Depending on the fishing grounds and conditions, possible target species include:
- Barracuda
- King mackerel
- Spanish mackerel
- African pompano
- Sharks
- Rays
- Various other predatory species
Live bait can also be presented in deeper water and close to the seabed. This brings a completely different range of species into play, including:
- Grouper
- Mutton snapper
- Yellowtail snapper
- Moray eel
- Various other snapper and bottom-dwelling species
The choice of bait, fishing depth and rig is adapted to the target species and the conditions on the day.
Jigging
For anglers who enjoy active and physically demanding fishing, this destination offers excellent opportunities for jigging. Different styles and weights of jigs are used to work deeper structures, reefs and other productive fishing grounds.
Possible catches while jigging include:
- Amberjack
- African pompano
- Grouper
- Various other powerful reef and bottom-dwelling species
The strikes can be brutal. Once hooked, these fish will often immediately try to power their way back towards the seabed or into nearby structure. Strong tackle, quick reactions and plenty of stamina are therefore essential.
Casting with Lures
Casting poppers, stickbaits, softbaits and other artificial lures is one of the favourite ways to fish at this destination. It is an exciting and highly active style of fishing, with predators often attacking the lure on or just below the surface.
Possible species include:
- Bonito
- Spanish mackerel
- King mackerel
- Other mackerel species
- Rainbow runner
- Needlefish
- Barracuda
- Various other predatory species
Depending on where the fish are feeding and how active they are, you can switch between surface lures, shallow-running plugs, softbaits and casting jigs.
Bottom Fishing
For anglers who prefer targeting fish close to the seabed, there are plenty of opportunities as well. Fishing takes place over both natural and artificial structures that provide habitat and feeding grounds for a wide variety of reef and bottom species.
Possible catches include:
- Yellowtail snapper
- Grouper
- Mutton snapper
- Various other snapper, grouper and bottom-dwelling species
One of the great attractions of this type of fishing is that you never quite know what will take the bait next. The variety of species can be exceptional.
Food and drinks are provided on board during the fishing day, allowing you to spend as much time as possible actually fishing.
Private Fishing Grounds, Artificial Reefs & FADs
One of the special features of this destination is access to privately established artificial reefs. These structures create attractive feeding and hunting grounds for baitfish, predatory species and a wide range of bottom fish.
There is also continuous investment in developing new fishing opportunities. New FADs – Fish Aggregating Devices – are being deployed to attract and concentrate baitfish. In turn, larger pelagic predators can gather around these locations.
The combination of natural fishing grounds, artificial reefs and FADs adds another dimension to the fishing and creates even more variety throughout the trip.
More Than 40 Years of Local Experience
Local knowledge is a major part of the experience. The captain has more than 40 years of experience at sea and comes from a fishing family with over four generations of experience.
Currents, wind, swell, tides, water temperature and the presence of baitfish are constantly changing. Thanks to his extensive local knowledge, the captain can adapt the programme each day and focus on the areas and techniques offering the best opportunities at that particular moment.
A Fishing Trip Tailored to You
The philosophy is simple: there is no fixed fishing programme. Each day is tailored as much as possible to the guests' wishes and the conditions at sea.
One day might be focused on trolling for fast pelagic predators, while the next could involve jigging over deeper structure, casting poppers and stickbaits, or targeting reef fish close to the bottom. Different techniques can, of course, also be combined during the same fishing day.
New fishing grounds are continually being explored, additional techniques are being developed and the fishing opportunities for guests continue to expand.
That makes this destination particularly exciting for anglers who want to experience as many different species, techniques and styles of fishing as possible during a single trip.
