Djibouti, Seven Brothers

There are several areas where fishing can take place and each location has a different accommodation.

The Moucha and Maskala Islands

This area is large and offers an impressive variety of fish, thanks to the numerous reefs and impressive drop offs that are close to the open sea. The famous Dankali bank is a privileged place for the success of your fishing trip. The main target fish here are GT, jacks, redfish, snappers, kingfish, barracuda, grouper, dorado, sailfish, marlin and many other species. You will stay on Musha Island in comfortable single or double bungalows in double rooms with electricity, fan, shower and toilet. Here breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily in the local restaurant.

Seven brothers

Also known as the Sawabi Islands. This mythical area is known to all tropical anglers from all over the world because of its many stories. It is wise to travel here well (physically) prepared with the right equipment. The main target fish here is the record GT but there is also definitely wahoo, redfish, barracuda, grouper, dorado and sailfish in good numbers.

You stay here far from all civilization in the Khor Angar camp which lies on a sandbank between the sea and the mangrove. Here you can fish in the evening and at night with rising water and you may be surprised to see what's swimming by here. The stay is basic but that's all you need. Every day breakfast, lunch and dinner are served here. You stay in single rooms with shower and toilet.

There are currently 2 boats for fishing:

• The Tolka is 8 meters in length with one 150 HP outboard with GPS and fishfinder. It has a lot of deck space and is optimally designed for popping with up to 3 anglers.
• The Kobe is 11 meters long and 2.7 meters wide. The boat has 2 x 150 HP 4 stroke Yamaha engines, 21 rod holders Hummingbird Helix 10 Fishfinder / GPS and VHF.

Rods:
Popper rod 50 and 80 lbs with strong reels such as Stella 14000, Saltiga etc with 40 to 50 kilos dyneema
Jigging rod 60 - 80 lbs with the same reels like steel etc with 30 to 40 kg dyneema.

Leaders:
For this we recommend 170 to 200 lbs fluorocarbon or nylon for popping and 120 to 140 lbs for jigging.

Lures:
Popping: 4 larger poppers, 4 medium poppers and 5 stickbaits with hook size 4 or 5/0
Jigging: 10 jigs between 150 and 300 grams with single hooks of 10 or 12/0
Trolling: 4 or 5 large and deep-running lures

Make sure you have good split ring and sleeve pliers, split rings of 150 to 200 lbs and closed rings of 300 lbs. Sleeves in the appropriate line thicknesses. Furthermore a light t-shirt with long sleeves, good polarized sunglasses, fish cap and sunscreen of factor 50!

Because of the warm weather the GT's are here all year round. They hardly move away. In the 'colder period' from December to February the sailfish, marlin, wahoo and yellowfin tuna pass by. In July and August it is so hot that it is not comfortable to fish here. These are the only two months that there is no fishing here. All other months you can come here to chase your fishing dream.

March to June and September to November are the best months for popping and jigging. In addition, December to February with the arrival of the sailfish, marlin, wahoo and yellowfin tuna offer extra opportunities and the GT fishery is a bit quieter.

Example program: 8 days / 7 nights / 6 fishing days

Thursday: Arrival in Djibouti. Reception at the airport by the organization and customs formalities. Transfer to the chosen fishing area. (Seven Brothers and Goubet about 3 hours and Moucha half an hour). After arrival installation in the accommodation and prepare for the first day of fishing.
Friday to Wednesday: 6 days of fishing with skipper and guide.
Wednesday: morning fishing depending on the chosen sector and later in the day; return to Moucha island for last night
Thursday morning: transfer to Djibouti town and end of the trip and afternoon return flight home.
This trip can be planned as you wish in terms of start and end date but always subject to availability. It is also possible to visit different areas in 1 trip to make the fishing trip complete and unforgettable. But make sure you book in time. A year in advance is recommended. Be aware: Drones are NOT allowed in Djibouti

There are several airlines that fly to Djibouti and in consultation the best flight will be determined. Air France, Qatar airways, Kenya Airways, Ethiopian Airlines and Turkish Airlines. To enter Djibouti you need a visa. The cost of this is about € 25,- and you can apply online at https://www.evisa.gouv.dj/ . From the organization you will receive a statement you need regarding the place of stay you need for your visa.
