There are several possibilities to stay here.

Option 1 is the Calheta Beach Resort Hotel. The hotel has a 4 star rating and is located directly at the harbour. So you can get on the boat and back from your bedroom. This hotel is slightly less luxurious than option 2 but still very pleasant and comfortable. It has its own sandy beach and comfortable rooms and also has its own swimming pool, pool bar, free steam bath, free Wi-Fi in public areas, gym etc. You have the option to book this option with accommodation, breakfast, half and full board.

Option 2 is the new and luxurious Saccharum Hotel. This hotel is located on the other side of the harbour and from your balcony you can look directly at the fishing boats. The Saccharum Hotel is beautiful and luxurious and was opened in the spring of 2015. It has a 4 star luxury rating and has all imaginable facilities such as three swimming pools, pool bar, gym, air conditioning, squash, free Wi-Fi etc. The hotel has 243 rooms and almost all overlook the ocean. Here you have all facilities at thand.

At this location, sun, sea and beach are abundant and therefore all the necessary ingredients for a wonderful (fishing) holiday. On site there are also other options to do something like snorkelling, diving, whale / dolphin excursions, shopping in the local boutiques, strolling along the harbour, sailing, swimming, sunbathing or exploring the island with a rental car or scooter. And all this of course in addition to the local restaurants and bars that make it all very cosy and enhance the true holiday atmosphere.

For fishing we offer a Boston Whaler Outrage 190. This boat is suitable for up to 4 guests and focuses on light tackle to big game fishing. So even for the marlin it is just as good as for popping, trolling or jigging. Think of dorado, barracuda, snapper, amberjacks, moray eels, sharks and rays. This is extremely spectacular on the light materials on board. The Mako has Penn International and Shimano materials of 30/50 and 80 lbs standard on board. Here you can use a fighting harness to drill the fish stand up or make use of the fighting chair at the front of the boat.

The boat has a 115 HP Mercury Marine engine that takes you quickly and comfortably to all the desired fishing spots. The Mako offers very active fishing where you play the main role yourself. Jigging and popping or casting lures along certain spots results in exciting and spectacular fishing. But if desired also for marlin!

Option 2 is to fish from the beach and the rocks yourself. Here you do not catch the biggest ones but you can use your rental car along the coast to find beautiful spots where you can have fun fishing both with lures and of course natural bait. To be able to cast a "rod" from the beach it is wise to bring a medium to heavy spinning rod from 50 to 100 grams and a solid beach rod from 150 to 250 grams. This way you can fish with lures or float along the piers and rocks for barracuda (think of steel wire leader). And also from the piers it is possible to catch ray, shark, blue fish etc. with pieces of fish.

The third option is to take a day off and enjoy the sunshine and the beautiful sights of the beautiful island. Although most fishermen do not think of this as a serious option.

The temperature in Madeira is moderate throughout the year with plenty of sunshine. In winter up to 16 degrees and in summer up to 23 degrees. The island is characterized by the mild climate and the small temperature fluctuations and the many hours of sunshine. Not too hot and not too cold and therefore ideal for a long weekend or week of sunshine at all times of the year. The best period is from May to the end of October.

This trip can be tailor-made for any desired length or group size. Fr example enjoy a week with 3 couples where the ladies can stay on the beach or at the swimming pool of the hotel and the men can fish for a few days. Of course the ladies can also join you on the boat! Or just go here with 4 friends and have a wonderful week of varied fishing.

For a one week trip for 3 persons with 5 fishing days (Mako as a private boat) rental car, and accommodation in the Calheta hotel including lunch, the starting price is € 2.395,- per person. Additional costs are flights, dinner and tip any tips for the captain. The final price depends on the number of participants, number of fishing days, type of fishing, available flights and type of accommodation.
