Yellowtail Kingsfish hotspot
Yellowtail Kingfish and More on the Unique Robinson Crusoe Island off the Coast of Chile!
Fishing:
Join us on this UNIQUE group trip to Robinson Crusoe Island, part of the Juan Fernández Archipelago in the South Pacific. This remote destination is a Chilean nature reserve and one of UNESCO’s Biosphere Reserves. It is also one of the very few places in the world where large—and abundant—Yellowtail Kingfish can be caught, along with many other species.
This exclusive group trip is limited to a maximum of 7 participants and is organized by visreis.nl. The trip will be hosted by John Smit, who personally visited the location during the pilot trip and knows all the ins and outs of this unique adventure.
The Yellowtail Kingfish (Seriola lalandi) is a true bucket-list species that can only be caught in a few places on Earth. It is at least as strong and fast as the famous Giant Trevally, and it can be targeted just as effectively by casting poppers and stickbaits. This spectacular, lightning-fast, and incredibly powerful game fish is guaranteed to get any angler’s adrenaline pumping.
The waters around the island hold many other species as well, including several that are endemic to the area. One example is the Sierra, a unique wahoo-like fish found only in this region. There is also a local halibut species that can grow to over one meter in length, as well as corvinas, groupers, and various other species. These fish are mainly targeted by jigging and are known for putting up a strong fight.
During the pilot trip we caught Yellowtail Kingfish up to 35 kg, along with many other species.
The crew at the lodge we partner with is highly experienced and consists of passionate sport fishermen themselves. They know the waters, the conditions, and the fishing spots extremely well and will do everything possible to put you on the fish.
The boats are spacious, stable, modern, and fast, and comfortably accommodate four anglers. For this group trip we will operate two boats, each with four anglers on board.
A Unique Setting:
Located in the South Pacific, about 700 km off the coast of Chile, Robinson Crusoe Island is one of the few places on Earth where nature remains almost untouched and where only the local population is allowed to fish.
The moment you arrive, you will be amazed: a stunning island with around 900 inhabitants, surrounded by a deep-blue ocean with crystal-clear water teeming with marine life. You’ll notice it immediately when you are welcomed by the island’s sea lions.
We rarely see such an abundance of fish and marine life. Besides countless fish species, the waters are also home to orcas, sea lions, lobsters, sea urchins, and much more. As a result, the birdlife is spectacular too, including the large and majestic Albatross.
It truly is a one-of-a-kind destination.
The story of Robinson Crusoe is inspired by events that took place on this island. In 1704, the Scottish sailor Alexander Selkirk was left here after leaving his galleon (which later sank). He survived alone on the island for four years. Visitors can still see the cave where he lived and the lookout points he built.
The island was later named Robinson Crusoe Island after the famous novel.
Today, the island has a small but well-developed community. There are comfortable houses, paved roads, motorized transport, and various local facilities. The lodge we stay at offers comfortable beds, excellent food and drinks, friendly staff, beautiful boats, and an experienced crew. Best of all, everything is within walking distance.
